Indoor Tanning and outdoor tanning can have drastic side effects if not used properly. Just like that old saying ‘too much of anything is a bad thing’, the same applies to tanning. The most common risk associated with tanning either indoor or outdoor is the chance of developing skin cancer.

Aside from skin cancer, there are countless other diseases associated with indoor and outdoor tanning. Here are some complications that can arise from excessive tanning. We hope that by seeing this, you will cut down or monitor your tanning to a more moderate level.

• Actinic Keratosis- this is a skin growth that usually appears on any part of the body that is exposed on the sun. Usually appears on the hands, forearms, necks and face.

• Photo aging- Yr skin because of the long term exposure to the UV rays will become wrinkly, leathery and thick. This is also known as premature aging or in scientific terms actinic degeneration. This situation can be avoided by using proper protection.

• Certain Eye Damages and Cataracts – UV radiation has been known to increase the risk of having cataracts. Cataracts can cause the person to have cloudy vision because of loss of transparency in the eye. If not treated, this can cause blindness.

• Other types of skin ailments that affects the eyes due to UV radiation are: skin cancer around the eyes, pterygium (the growth of tissue on the white part of the eye), and damage in the part of the retina where vision is the sharpest. (macula degeneration)
